Paris, April 27, 2011 - Assystem is unveiling today its new technology demonstrator - the Assystem Amphibian Aircraft, an amphibious two-seater microlight. Conceived in Toulouse, and developed in-house trans-nationally in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, this project aims to test innovative aerospace technologies and at the same time optimize Assystem’s international collaborative workflow, as well as supporting know-how transfer between seasoned engineers and young graduates. The project emerges from Assystem’s R&D policy which reached a turning point in 2007 with the creation of the Assystem City Car.
"We are not trying to take the place of manufacturers but, as with the Assystem City Car, to develop demonstrators that build solutions showcasing our capability for generating, organizing and driving innovation forward,” says Dominique Louis, Chairman of the Management Board.
“And because the Group enjoys an extensive range of skills across different countries, we can use our major research programs to bring more cross-border team players on board and build and mobilize a network of experts".
The Amphibian draws on all Assystem’s core skills:
designing and developing aerostructures, implementing and integrating systems, including embedded systems,
testing and validation, and supply chain management, all underpinned by effective
project management.
A mockup of the Assystem Amphibian Aircraft will be showcased at the International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition to be held at Le Bourget (France) from June 20 to 26 on the Assystem stand (Hall 2B, Stand C52). Visitors will be able to find out all about the project and watch how it is developed between Bristol, Toulouse and Munich through a demonstration of collaborative work in real time.
